Does Your Child Need Braces?

Does Your Child Need Braces

Did you know that your child does not have to have to have metal, train-tracks – style braces anymore?

I am passionate about providing a pain-free, hygienic solution for children that does not restrict their diet.

Having two teenagers myself, I know how uncomfortable braces can be. They can also restrict what foods they can eat, which most teenagers are not going to be happy about!

This is why I offer Invisalign teen for all my teenage patients. It is fast, clean, clear and painless compared to braces, and their are no restrictions on their diet.

Talk to me about how I can help your child get a comfortable solution to correcting their teeth and providing them with a great smile. This system also requires a lot less visits to the dentist! Dr Sasha Rutnam

Invisalign vs. Braces: Which Will Work Best for Me?

Invisalign vs. Braces: Which Will Work Best for Me

One Of The Most Common Questions Patients Ask In The Invisalign Vs. Braces Debate Is, What Will Work Best For Me? For Patients Looking To Get Orthodontic Dental Treatments, The Answer Can Be Complicated.

Firstly, Dr Rutnam will need to determine if you’re a candidate for either treatment. Your orthodontic options will vary based on jaw, bite, and teeth.

The good news is, both Invisalign and braces can effectively straighten teeth. They can also correct bite issues that require specific diagnosis and treatment. The bad news is, the different between the two treatments is significant. So choosing the wrong option could leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of each before you decide what’s best for you.

Introducing ZOOM Whitening to NSD

Introducing ZOOM whitening to North Shore Dentistry.

With so many different whitening products on the market, it’s easy to get confused. So here are the facts you need to know before you commit.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Clinical studies have shown that whitening your teeth with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effect is tooth and gum sensitivity. Your dentist is your best resource to ensure that you are a good candidate for whitening and that you are using the right concentration of whitening formula. Philips Zoom at-home whitening products have two mild desensitizing agents, potassium nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), to minimize tooth sensitivity.

What’s the difference between OTC whitening solutions and Philips Zoom?

Over-the-counter whitening products are not customized to your needs. With Philips Zoom, the whitening process is tailored to your needs by your dentist, with custom-fitted trays for at-home treatments or just the right light intensity and duration in the dentist’s office.

How long will my Zoom whitening results last?

Whitening treatments help to reduce existing stains, but through consumption of coffee, soft drinks or just through natural aging, your teeth may eventually become discolored again. Maintenance whitening can help combat recurring discoloration. Only Philips Zoom at-home whitening products include ACP, which has been shown to help reduce whitening fade-back.

What causes teeth to discolor?

There are many causes to tooth discoloration. Some of the most common include the consumption highly colored foods and drinks (berries, coffee, tea, red wine). Some medications, aging, smoking and trauma can also cause teeth discoloration.

How long does it take?

With Philips Zoom, your teeth will be visibly whiter in one day. With Zoom in-office, you will achieve up to eight shades whiter in 45 minutes. With Zoom at-home, when used as instructed, you will achieve the same great results in one-two weeks, depending on concentration of formulation and wear time you select.

The Recent Revelations of Infection Control Standard Violations by Several Sydney Dental Practices Have Put Dental Disinfection, Sterilisation and Patient Safety in the Spotlight.

Thousands of patients have been put at risk due to the breakdown in sterilisation and cleaning of equipment at several Sydney dental practices, echoing similar recent cases across Australia. Six dentists were suspended this month and authorities have closed one practice. Although NSW Health have said that there is only a low risk of infection and so far there is no evidence a patient has been infected as a result of the breaches.

“The community can continue to have confidence in the dental system in NSW and that the delivery of dentistry in NSW will be in a safe way and to a high standard”

Jeremy McAnulty

(NSW Health – director of health protection)

“Patients can feel safe Australia has the highest standards of infection control in the world.”

Ozone Disinfection

Cleaning dental instruments is a four-stage process that includes washing, disinfection, sterilisation and packaging. One of the ways we comprehensively account for proper disinfection and sterilisation at North Shore Dentistry is through the use of ozone and autoclave technology.

Evidence shows that ozone effectively kills bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites and out performs almost all disinfectants and antiseptics. At North Shore Dentistry all our instruments are disinfected using ozonated water and washed in a 95 degree dishwasher prior to being autoclaved, ensuring maximum infection control. Autoclaving sterilises equipment by way of high-pressure saturated steam inside a pressure chamber.

Ozone is also used in a number of procedures including root canal and restorative treatments to minimise the chance of re-infection and post-operative pain. There are no toxic by-products from ozone use and it in fact helps promote healing.
