How can I have straight teeth without braces?
There are many invisible options to straighten your teeth. Invisalign and lingual braces are very popular these days and enable you to straighten your teeth without braces.
My dentist said I had a cracked tooth, what should I do?
A tooth can crack due to many reasons, if it is cracked it is best to have it crowned. A crown acts like a helmet and protects the underlying crack in a tooth.
What should I do if my child has knocked his tooth out?
Put the tooth in milk or stick it inside his/your cheek and bring it to the dentist straightway so that it can be replaced in the jaw. Do not wash the tooth.
Why do I have a black tooth?
A black tooth is a tooth where the nerve of the tooth has died. It is best to get this tooth treated as soon as possible.
What is a tooth abscess?
A tooth abscess is an infection of the tooth. It can be nerve or gum related. It needs to be treated immediately or you run the risk of a dangerous facial swelling and cellulitis.
Are metal fillings bad for you?
Metal or amalgam fillings have Mercury in them. Mercury fillings have been used for years but there is no need to have them these days as there are a range of non-metal options available. Metal fillings can cause your teeth to crack as they expand and contract with heat changes in the mouth. It is best to have them removed and replaced with non-metal options
Is a dentist made mouthguard any better than a shop bought mouthguard?
A dentist made mouthguard is custom-made and fits your mouth perfectly. It does not slip off during an impact injury and will protect your teeth better than a shop-bought mouthguard.
What is cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry involves making your teeth aesthetically pleasing. It may involve orthodontics, teeth whitening, crowns, veneers and implants if required.
Are dental x-rays safe?
Dental x-rays are perfectly safe. Digital x-rays are even safer as the radiation exposure is only a fraction of a second.
How often should I brush my teeth?
You should brush twice daily using a fluoride toothpaste and soft bristle toothbrush for at least 2 minutes each time.
Should I floss every day?
Yes, flossing removes plaque from in between the teeth unlike brushing can. Plaque that remains between the teeth can cause decay and gum disease.
Is manual or electric tooth brush better?
An electric brush has been shown to be far more effective at plaque removal than a hand held brush. It is definitely better for you than a manual brush.
